Jockey Toomey set for retirement after struggling for winners on his comeback

Toomey, who was based in North Yorkshire, has not ridden a winner since he made his comeback at Southwell last July and has struggled to pick up rides.

However the 27-year-old, who hopes to ride for long-term supporter Brian Dunn at Stratford on Tuesday, said: “I just wanted the chance to prove I was still capable.

“It’s a big weight lifted off my shoulders. At some point I needed to accept it wasn’t going to happen for me as a jockey.”
