Kate wills GB on: Royal couple try to spur Zara and her team-mates to glory

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry headed a delegation of royal supporters to cheer on Zara Phillips as Britain’s bid for Olympic glory continued yesterday.

Her cousins, Beatrice and Eugenie, along with the Duchess of Cornwall also came to the equestrian venue in Greenwich in south-east London to support 
the Queen’s grand-daughter and the rest of the Great Britain 
team.

Prince William and Prince Harry later went to on watch the Great Britain men’s gymnastics team pick up bronze – the first medal for a century in the event.

But there was disappointment for Tom Daley and his synchronised diving partner Pete Waterfield as they just missed out on a medal after finishing fourth.

Daley was later subjected to abuse on the Twitter social media site where a poster accused him of letting down his late father, Rob, who died from cancer last year.

Daley responded by tweeting: “After giving it my all... you get 
idiots sending me this...”

Prime Minister David Cameron, who was among the crowds to watch the British divers, responded to another social media controversy by branding Tory MP Aidan Burley’s Twitter criticism of the Olympic opening ceremony “idiotic”.

Mr Burley, who was forced to quit as a Ministerial aide after attending a Nazi-themed stag do last year, described the £27m show as “multicultural leftie crap”.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire’s cycling sensation Lizzie Armitstead has appealed for help to find the lucky sunglasses she lost clinching silver in Sunday’s road race.

Surrey Police are helping the 23-year-old, from Otley, near Leeds, relocate her shades which she dropped after lifting them from her eyes to enable her to see through the driving rain.
