Keighley’s Walker ends Malton’s run

Yorkshire 1: After 17 consecutive victories, Malton and Norton were finally beaten when Keighley came from behind to scrape a 13-12 home verdict.

Malton took an early lead when centre Rob Armitage squeezed over in the fourth minute. After a penalty by fly-half Alex Brown, Keighley took an 8-5 half-time lead when winger Sam Walker touched down.

Malton regained the lead when Josh Saunders crossed near the posts, Teei Piawi converted, but Keighley kept pressing and snatched the game when winger Sam Walker crashed over with two minutes remaining.

Malton’s losing bonus puts them 17 points clear of second-placed Sheffield, who now have two games in hand following the postponement of their match at Castleford. Keighley’s win puts them third ahead of Heath, who were defeated 26-15 at home to Scarborough. Tries by prop Paul Taylor and Louis Karl helped Scarborough into a 20-0 interval lead, and they sealed their win with two penalties by Matty Jones.

Ilkley moved ahead of their rivals when they scraped a 25-22 home win over North Ribblesdale.Forwards Don Hutchinson, Pete Small and Iain McKenzie scored Ilkley’s tries. North Ribblesdale’s tries came from Matt Dakin, Michael Carr and a penalty try.

Selby, who scored all their points without reply in the first half, held on for a 31-24 win against Dinnington.

Dan Porter (2) Andrew Pocklington, Brendan Lanaghan and Andy Bennett scored Selby’s tries. From being 31 points down, Dinnington fought back well with two tries by Will Marshall, Alex Donnelly and Sam Kirk.
