Khan set for McCloskey date

The British boxer had originally wanted to fight Peterson but pulled out after the American demanded too much money and Khan has turned his attention to a bout with European champion McCloskey at the MEN Arena in Manchester on April 16.

Khan has said he is happy with the proposed fight despite missing out on his first choice.

He said: "The next level for him is world title and I'm to take the fight on. He's a good fighter."

The Bolton boxer, who won the WBA light welterweight title in July 2009 by defeating Andreas Kotelnik, has stated he wants to unify the division this year.

After facing McCloskey, Khan is eyeing up the winner of the January 29 bout between Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander, the respective WBO and WBC belt holders, to become unified world champion.
