Wheatley Hills' lead was reduced to three points as they lost 8-5 at Bradford Salem while second-placed Sheffield, with a game in hand, won 19-17 at home to Selby.

Sheffield battled back from a half-time deficit to win 19-17 against Selby.

Adrian Montagu, veteran second-row John Dudley and hooker Karl Mortimer touched down, Mortimer scoring in stoppage-time to seal a dramatic win.

Third-placed Castleford were also on the losing end as they let an early 10-0 lead slip before going down 15-10 at Scarborough.

Castleford went ahead with a try by tight-head prop Steve Johnson, converted by Carl Paterson, and within 10 minutes had scored as many points when Paterson added a penalty.

Scarborough came back with a try from short range by scrum-half Bill Freeman, and just before half-time they equalised with a try by hooker Ian Williams.

Matty Jones's conversion saw the home side turn round 12-10 ahead.

Jones added a penalty for Scarborough in the 50th minute, and there was no further score in a bad-tempered last half-hour in which Scarborough were down to 13 men at one point with two players in the sin bin.

York, with a game in hand, moved to within one point of Castleford when they pulled off a 17-11 win at Keighley.

Malton and Norton, who had spent all but the first two weeks of the season in the bottom three, secured their place in Yorkshire One for another season when they ran out 69-9 home winners over Skipton.

Centre Ryan Lonsdale and No 8 Sam Trippett both ran in two tries for Malton, and Teei Piawi kicked 19 points with eight conversions and a penalty.

Malton move ahead of Selby, and Skipton dropped to bottom place as previous tailenders Yarnbury fought back with the wind on their backs to score a 43-21 home win over mid-table Heath.

Yarnbury, for whom No 8 Joe Mills ran in two tries, did well to score 19 points against the strong wind as Heath turned round 21-19 ahead.

Bridlington beat Dinnington 29-13 with tries from South African full-back Siswe Zondo, winger Ryan Kerr, hooker John Lee and back-row Mike Ridsdale.
