Late tries help lift West Leeds to top

Yorkshire Two

With leaders North Ribblesdale out of action because of a frozen pitch at Pocklington, West Park Leeds moved level on league points with an 18-9 home victory over Knottingley.

Knottingley took an early lead with the first of three penalties from fly-half Dave Evans.

West Park levelled the score with a penalty by Sam Booth before half-time, but two further penalties by Evans put the visitors into a 9-3 lead before Leeds secured the win with three late tries.

A breakaway from the halfway line by centre Stuart McLure put them to within one point, and they edged in front with a pushover try credited to No 8 John Fletcher. Then, in the dying minutes, second-row Dan Thompson went over in the corner.

Ripon missed the chance to go ahead of Hullensians into fourth placed when they were defeated 38-14 at home to lower-placed Huddersfield YMCA.

Moortown, previously level with their rivals on league points but behind on scoring difference, moved ahead when they scraped a 15-13 home win in their derby against Leodiensians.
