Laugher edges out Yorkshire rival Woodward to clinch British title

The 21-year-old recorded a score of 489.25 to see off the challenge of City of Sheffield’s Freddie Woodward.

“It means a lot to regain my title after being forced to miss the National Cup in January because of injury,” he said.

“My season has gone well so far.

“I performed well at the European Championships where I won gold and silver and at the world series so I will hopefully be in contention for that selection for Rio next week.”

Former European champion Sarah Barrow claimed gold in the women’s 10m platform with a score of 347.90 to beat Dive London’s Georgia Ward.

“Having two years of injuries and having to stop and start with my diving was tough,” said the 27-year-old. “I’ve worked really hard to make sure I was where I needed to be.

“I stuck at my diving. I have a good mindset and I feel like that showed (yesterday).”

There were impressive victories for both Tom Daley and Grace Reid on the final day of competition at the South Yorkshire venue yesterday.

Daley dominated the 10m event from the off, recording a score of 549.10 in the preliminary rounds yesterday morning, including a 91.20 for his inward 3 1/2 somersaults tucked.

He remained ahead and stretched his lead over the field before finishing with a score of 507.95.

Matty Lee took the silver medal with a score of 428.00, while Noah Williams won bronze with 389.05.

Reid recovered from an initial shaky preliminary round to take gold in the women’s 3m springboard.

The European champion then put in a consistent performance to finish with a total of 325.45.

Rebecca Gallantree (286.50) finished second and Katherine Torrance (261.30) third.
