It was a competitive game but it was Hull that had the upper hand for the lion’s share of the match.

Tigers started brightly and Tom Outram kicked a penalty in the opening minute before following up with another just four minutes later.

Dominic Les Pierre got Hull back into it with a try on 13 minutes and left winger James Kirk added another ten minutes later.

Both Les Pierre and Kirk caused problems all game and ended the game with a brace each, as did Ben Sullivan.

But the main man for the home side was Garry Law, who was magnificent at centre.

Tigers battled hard and found two tries through Jonathan Buchanan.

But they never found a way to stop Hull from scoring and left empty-handed.

Harrogate defeated Caldy 35-24 to lift themselves back into the top half. From the kick-off, Steve Parsons took the ball just inside the Caldy half and outstripped the defence for a brilliant try under the posts.

A Harrogate lineout offence led to a quick Caldy penalty and a strong Matt Van Sertima break was well supported by Richard Vasey who scored in the corner. His conversion put the visitors 5-7 ahead.

Van Sertima crashed over to score a converted try after a strong Alec Smith break sparked sustained Caldy attacks.

Craig Ross then sprinted 60 yards to score another converted try for Caldy.

The second half started evenly but Harrogate obviously had a mountain to climb and a Vasey drop goal made it even steeper.

Will Dutton powered over for his maiden Harrogate try, before Cross was dispatched to the sin bin during which time Harrogate drew level.

A midfield loose ball was snapped up by Callum Irvine whose dazzling run took him over the line from 50 metres and Joe Rowntree converted.

Kyle Dench broke strongly after a great Harrogate turnover and passed to Parsons whose strength and speed took him over for another converted try which levelled the scores.

Dench nudged them ahead before he started the move which led to the final converted try and Irvine carried on the move with a defence-splitting break with livewire hooker Aarin Yorke sprinting clear to score.

A stirring second-half revival saw Otley score 22 unanswered points to sweep to victory against Leicester Lions after an early second half converted try had them trailing 15-3.

They had competed well but failed to find penetration, suffering turnovers galore on the visitors’ line to negate solid approach work.

Jacob Knight crossed for Caldy’s first and although scrum-half Gerhard Boshoff failed with a conversion he kicked a penalty, Otley’s own response being a 40th-minute penalty from full-back Mark Ireland.

Lions forwards drove over after the restart, lock Thomas Chaney grounding, Boshoff converting but it stung Otley into positive action.

Hill, backing up well went over, Ireland converting and they then stole a lineout to put Harry Hudson in at the corner.

A penalty from Ireland consolidated the advantage then, with the best move of the afternoon, lock Simon Willett went in at the posts to give Ireland a simple conversion.
