Leaders Beverley edged out at Morley

north east one: Morley saw off leaders Beverley 15-12, Simon Bradshaw landing the winning penalty in the final minute.

The visitors fought their way back from 9-0 down at half-time to lead 12-9 before Bradshaw levelled matters with a successful kick going into the final 10 minutes. With the clock in the red, another penalty for The Maroons fell narrowly short, but when Beverley tried to take the ball back downfield they conceded another penalty and Bradshaw made no mistake.

Old Crossleyans made it three successive wins with a 27-18 success at Northern. The visitors set up an 18-12 lead at the break with tries from second-rower Kevin McGill, scrum-half Chris Vine and winger Billy Hammond.

Northern drew level with two second half penalties but Crossleyans responded with three accurate kicks by right winger Gareth Sweeney, to take the points.

Keighley suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season following a 23-14 reverse at home to second-placed Sheffield.

The hosts only trailed by a point at the break, having come back from 8-0 down. Sheffield, taking advantage of a more clinical kicking game, extended their advantage to 23-7 before full-back Danny McGhee wrapped up the scoring for Keighley.

Cleckheaton moved up to sixth place with a 30-23 win at home over Malton & Norton.

The home team opened the scoring through a converted Martin Woodhead try, before Malton replied through a Charlie Ramsay penalty and then edged ahead through a Tom Newitt try, converted by Ramsay.

James Wilson then sprinted over for the home side for a try converted by Iain Gordon, who then added a penalty. Jonno Marshall’s try put Cleckheaton into a 22-10 lead at the break.

But while Cleckheaton captain Richard Piper was sin-binned, Ramsay reduced the arrears with a penalty. The game was turned on its head when Tom Newitt’s try saw Malton edge ahead with 15 minutes left.

But Piper returned to score a try, with a timely drop goal from Gordon completing the scoring.
