Leeds striker urges players to focus on the future

Davide Somma says Leeds United must forget their Yorkshire derby drubbing at Barnsley as they look ahead to facing another near-neighbour Doncaster on Friday night.

Simon Grayson's side were thrashed 5-2 at Oakwell, but will have a chance to put things right with a second Yorkshire derby awayday in the space of just 72 hours.

"It was a tough defeat, but we have another game coming up," Somma told the club's official website. "The Barnsley game is in the past now, and we have to move on.

"These things can happen in football. We have to pick our heads up. We have Doncaster on Friday, and we'll get ready for that.

"You can never expect what happened on Tuesday, but unfortunately it happened. We paid for mistakes, but we'll work on it and hopefully it won't happen again."

Grayson cited Somma's arrival as a substitute as one of the few positives to come out of the evening.

The marksman bagged his fourth goal of the season after stepping off the bench, but it proved a late consolation with Leeds trailing 5-1 at the time.

"You're always happy to score, but you want to score to help the team," added the striker. "That didn't really help the team - maybe next time.

"Whenever I'm called upon im ready. I just want to help the team and help Leeds."
