Leeds United boss bemoans lack of fighting spirit

SIMON GRAYSON felt his players lost the individual battles as Leeds surrendered the initiative in the promotion race with a limp defeat to rivals Millwall last night.

Leeds conceded goals in either half as their miserable run continued.

Millwall cut the deficit on second-place Leeds to just three points with nine games to go, and with the Elland Road men having won just three times in League One in 2010, the momentum is clearly with the Londoners.

"It wasn't good enough. Over the course of the game they were the better team," fumed Grayson.

"They were hard to beat, got in tackles, and with the ball they were better.

"We have playes who can do a lot better and they didn't do it.

"When we're at our best we pass it well, with flair and imagination, and we're hard to beat as well - we didn't do any of those things.

"None of our players won individual battles."

It doesn't get any easier for Leeds with a trip to runaway leaders Norwich City coming up on Saturday.

Grayson added: "You have to accept what has happened and come out fighting at the weekend.

"We knew what the Millwall game was about but now we have to roll our sleeves up for the weekend.

"We are still in a good position and we have to come out and achieve what we set out to achieve at the start of the season."
