Leyton Orient v Huddersfield Town: Town plan to follow Scunthorpe's route

League one: LEE CLARK is calling on Huddersfield Town to emulate Scunthorpe by launching a successful promotion bid from seventh place with 10 games to go.

The Terriers have lost their last three League One games to slip out of the play-off places.

Clark, though, points to Scunthorpe, who were seventh after 36 games last term before going on to clinch a place in the Championship via the play-offs, as an example of how to turn around their season.

The Huddersfield manager said: "I am not sure the effect being outside the top six has on the players. I think more fuss is made of it in the press.

"I don't know where Scunthorpe were at this stage last season but I think they came into the play-offs with a lot of momentum.

"If you are going into the play-offs, that is the way to do it as opposed to coming in on a losing run."

Town's four-game winless run – they drew with Leeds United before losing to Southampton, Gillingham and Norwich City – has come at a worrying time.

Clark is adamant his players are still in the hunt for promotion with even second-placed Leeds a possible target. He added: "Nothing has changed. If we win our last 10 games, we can still get second and the play-offs are certainly within our reach as we have a lot of the clubs above us to play during our run-in.

"One thing that is not in question is this group's attitude. They give everything for this club."

Town are likely to face a player they tried to sign in last season's January transfer window only for FIFA red tape to scupper the move. Jonathan Tehoue, who was contracted to Turkish club Konyaspor, was wanted by Town but Clark pulled the plug once the saga started to drag on.

The 25-year-old subsequently joined Orient shortly before Christmas.
