Longchamp success increases the options available to trainer Hogan

TRAINER Tom Hogan will weigh up the options for York’s Ebor festival winner Gordon Lord Byron after his thrilling victory in the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp.

He only entered the horse in the French Group One at the 11th hour on the say-so of big-race jockey William Buick after Gordon Lord Byron finished second to Society Rock in the Haydock Sprint Cup.

Gordon Lord Byron now has a number of possible overseas assignments, including a tilt at the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

“It cost 18,000 euro to supplement, and 25 per cent of him was leased to a Swiss businessman for the day who has broodmares in Ireland,” said County Tipperary-based Hogan.

“He’s been invited to enter for the Hong Kong Mile and he’s been invited out to Dubai in the spring. By winning on Sunday he’s also got a free entry for the Breeders’ Cup Mile.”

Meanwhile two of Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan’s Ebor festival winners, Blaine and Hototo, could reappear in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket for Saturday – a six furlong Group One test for two-year-old colts.

Blaine won the Gimcrack Stakes while Royal Ascot winner Hototo, second to Tim Easterby’s Body and Soul at Redcar on Saturday, took the DBS Yearling Sales Stakes on the Knavesmire under Phil Makin.
