Peterborough 1 Sheffield United 0

Kevin Blackwell said: "It started badly with Ched going off with a broken collarbone, and then Ward went off with a hamstring and also Williamson with a hamstring.

"It's never easy at the best of times. That is seven or eight players out with injuries in a squad of 21, 22, so you can see why we have got a problem.

"It has been like that twice this season. I said for the run-in that we could not afford injuries or suspension but we have got them by the bucketload now."

Despite seven consecutive away defeats, the Blades remain just four points outside of the top six. Blackwell added: "Last season we broke the club record (for away wins) and this season we couldn't win a raffle.

"We are always in games, but we weren't smart enough and we couldn't create enough.

"It is frustrating. If I could get my team out, the team I want, I think we would have a chance, but I can't get it out."

Preston 1 Doncaster Rovers 1

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll said: "We've had two away games in four days at Bristol City and Preston and we've got four points. I'd have taken that at the start of the week.

"Our goalkeeper has made a couple of saves in the second half where Preston have counter-attacked us.

"I'm disappointed because we had the chance with the penalty to get our noses in front again but this is a difficult division and if everything happened as you would want it to it wouldn't be so tight.

"Results like we had on Saturday (a 5-2 win at Bristol City) don't come along too often, but I thought with the way we played in the first half we could have been out of sight."

On Lonergan's penalty save, O'Driscoll added: "He made a fantastic save in the first half from Gareth Roberts as well, so he's earned his money.

"Billy will be disappointed with missing the penalty. Goalscorers want to score goals so he'll be a sulky boy on the way home. But he's been terrific for us. He's our top goalscorer, a bubbly character and he'll bounce back on Saturday I'm sure."

West Brom 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Wednesday manager Alan Irvine said: "I can't criticise the players. They were terrific the way they went about things and if we go about our jobs like that every game between now and the end of the season we will be fine.

"Things are looking an awful lot better since we lost at Reading. It has been a great response by the lads.

"We had to bounce back and the lads deserve enormous credit for the way they have come back. That is the right way to go about doing your job.

"The players are low at the moment as they felt they worked hard enough to get something against Albion.

"But at the end of the day if we win five more games we will be fine.

"I keep on saying it doesn't matter what everyone else is doing. Not everyone can get 53, 54 points.

"So I am not really to concerned about what is happening in the table. It would be freakish if everybody does get that number so I am just focusing on us winning enough games."

League One

Tranmere Rovers 1 Leeds United 4

Leeds manager Simon Grayson said: "We said after the weekend that a result and a performance was just around the corner.

"We fought and we scrapped when we had to, we showed quality when we had to, and we took our chances. We made it look comfortable at times with a battling performance.

"We knew we had to approach it in the right manner and be professional. Minds were focussed and there were a lot of positive aspects.

"You could sense over the past week we have been getting back to that. But we can't get too carried away, there's another 11 games to go."

League Two

Port Vale 2 Bradford City 1

Bantams boss Peter Taylor said: "That wasn't good enough on our part, we have to be honest with ourselves.

"Port Vale deserved to win. There were too many players in our team who were five or six out of 10.

"There might have been a few heavy legs but that's why we deliberately didn't do anything with them in training on Monday because of the amount of matches and travelling they have had.

"It's not an easy one to accepts as manager because I look at the players and feel they can do a lot better than that."
