Maynard scored his second 11 minutes after the break to put Bristol City back in front and Danny Haynes doubled their lead on 63 minutes.

The game was seemingly taken beyond Barnsley's reach when Paul Hartley's 76th-minute penalty made it 5-2 and Andy Gray's effort with nine minutes to go proved only a consolation as Bristol City won 5-3.

Doncaster Rovers held table-topping Newcastle until the 59th minute of their tussle at Keepmoat Stadium when Andrew Carroll scored what proved the only goal of the game.

Rotherham United took a 12th-minute lead at home to Macclesfield in League Two, Danny Harrison the scorer. But the visitors drew level on 25 minutes thanks to Ben Wright.
