McEwan handed development role

HULL STINGRAYS have appointed assistant coach Bobby McEwan as the club’s new head of junior development.

The 51-year-old Scot helped player-coach Sylvain Cloutier guide the East Yorkshire club to their best-ever finish in the Elite League last season, making the post-season play-offs thanks to a seventh-place finish and their hightest-ever points tally.

Now McEwan will oversee teams from the Under-10s through to the English National League side and have overall responsibility for developing players and identifying future top-flight stars.

“It is a great opportunity,” said McEwan. “I am buzzing already. I have already looked at a lot of players and the potential of some of them is just unbelievable.

“We will drill into the whole programme that if they work hard and are good enough they will get opportunities. Sylvain is a huge advocate of developing homegrown talent and it would give us great pride to see some of these youngsters go all the way.”

McEwan and Cloutier will be at Hull Arena this weekend when an Under-14 and Under-16 tournament is held, featuring teams from all over the UK.
