Moorhouse in for try milestone as Ionians make Morley pay

IONIANS gained a comfortable victory over Morley as they controlled the game up front and ran it well out wide.

Simon Jenkins collected the bonus-point try in just the 28th minute and Richard Moorhouse celebrated his 100th team appearance with their seventh try.

Morley applied early pressure but could not turn it into points and Ionians scored from their first attack. A penalty forced an attacking lineout with Joe Makin driven over the line, Dan Porter converting.

Ally Forth set up another and Mark Wigham touched down before forward pressure saw Adam Thomas dart in for Porter to convert.

Morley received a yellow card for repeated infringements and Jenkins was driven over.

Porter added a penalty before Morley closed the half with Simon Bradshaw diving over but losing the ball in the process and failing to score.

Ionians attacked straight from the restart and punished Morley's frequent errors with Rob Kench driven over.

Morley staged a brief rally and took advantage of their hosts' yellow card for not retreating with tries by replacement Sean Dadswell, converted by Simon Bradshaw, and No 8 Craig Field.

Ionians pressure was completed by Thomas darting in again before Moorhouse charged down a clearance kick and followed up to score, Porter converting the last two.

Morley rallied in stoppage time for Field to peel off into the corner, but too many errors had cost them dearly.

Huddersfield 27 Caldy 34

HUDDERSFIELD gave the semi-professionals of Caldy a good run for their money and a late penalty by Chris Johnson ensured they picked up a bonus point.

It was no more than they deserved, having been in sight of a possible victory until the dying moments.

After conceding an early penalty, Huddersfield hit back with a try from flanker George Hinchliffe, who side-stepped three backs to cross.

Johnson added the conversion and then levelled the scores with a penalty after Caldy's pack had driven over for a try.

More good work from the Huddersfield backs saw the ball change hands several times before full-back Ian Shuttleworth went over to give them a 15-10 lead.

The home side were unable to hold on to their advantage until half-time and turned round two points behind after Caldy had grabbed a converted try.

There was an exchange of penalties after the break before Caldy extended their lead to 27-18 with a try but two more successful kicks from Johnson brought the margin back to three points and raised hopes of a home win.

That became less likely when Huddersfield were reduced to 14 men and despite some brave defence, the home line was breached again in the last minute.

However, the stoppage-time penalty from the reliable Johnson was enough to ensure a point.
