Limato lined up for Clipper Logistics Stakes on opening day of York’s Dante Festival

HENRY Candy’s popular former Group One-winner Limato is among 16 acceptors for the Duke of York Clipper Logistics Stakes at York on Wednesday – day one of the season-opening Dante Festival on the Knavesmire.

The sprinter, now seven, returned to form when winning the Garrowby Stakes at York last September before landing the Group Two Challenge Stakes at Newmarket under regular rider Harry Bentley.

He carries a 5lb penalty for that latter success.

North Yorkshire trainer David O’Meara’s Suedois, who was runner-up in this race in 2016, is the oldest horse in the list at the age of eight.

Brando, who chased home Harry Angel 12 months ago, is one of three possibles from Kevin Ryan’s Hambleton’s stable along with Hey Jonesy and Major Jumbo.

Others include Andrew Balding’s Donjuan Triumphant, James Tate’s Invincible Army and Snazzy Jazzy for Clive Cox. Fozzy Stack’s Son Of Rest and Johnny Murtagh’s Urban Beat are the two Irish representatives.

Champion trainer John Gosden has won the Musidora Stakes five times in the last eight years and has two impeccably-bred fillies in a list of 14 entries for this Classic trial.

He can call on Entitle, a half-sister to the brilliant Enable, and Sparkle Roll, a half-sister to the 2017 Derby hero Wings Of Eagles. Both hold entries in the Epsom Oaks.

William Haggas, victorious last year with Give And Take, has entered Frankellina and Rainbow Heart, who also holds an entry in Sunday’s French 1000 Guineas. Aidan O’Brien supplies the Irish interest with Peach Tree and Fire Fly.
