Moseley 17 Doncaster Knights 15: Unlucky Knights have victory taken from their grasp

Despite having the majority of the ball and territorial possesion, Doncaster’s inability to turn it into points left them frustrated at the final whistle.

Doncaster were forced into a late reshuffle as Tom Luke’s shoulder injury ruled him out, which meant David McIlwaine moved into the fly-half spot and the regular full-back missed an early penalty from 45 metres as Moseley were caught not releasing.

Moseley struck after some good quickball from Ryan Glynn put Michael Ellery away down the left for a try, Brad Davies converting.

This seemed to spark the Knights into action and Dougie Flockhart broke from halfway before the supporting Latu Makaafi made it to the 22 before popping the ball up to Chris Hallam, who ran in to finish a swift attack, McIlwaine failing to convert.

Three minutes into the second half, Oli Goss found wing Michael Keating, who hit the line at pace and broke through two would-be tacklers to score between the posts and McIlwaine added the conversion.

Ten mintues later, McIlwaine added to Doncaster’s lead with a penalty but Moseley struck back after flanker Makaafi was caught holding on, Davies kicking the penalty.

As the game went into the closing 10 minutes McIlwaine missed a simple penalty as Moseley were caught offside.

Moseley made Doncaster pay by converting from a five-metre scrum two minutes from time. Replacement scrum-half Ryan De La Harpe found Reay, who scored by the post, Davies adding the conversion.
