Moseley 17 Doncaster Knights 20: Knights take a huge stride towards safety

The majority of the points came in a one-sided first half with Dougie Flockhart adding what proved a vital penalty late in the game.

The Knights could not have wished for a better start, opening up a 10-point lead inside 10 minutes thanks to a try down the wing from Paul Jarvis and a penalty and conversion from Flockhart. They were given an added boost when the home side, who had already lost Greg King through injury, saw flanker Ed Siggery binned for a high tackle.

The visitors stretched their lead when a tapped penalty saw scrum-half Tomasi Palu scamper over from eight yards, Flockhart’s conversion taking them into a 17-0 lead. This should have been it in a one-sided half but Moseley were thrown a lifeline late on when Will Hooley darted through between the posts, Ollie Thomas’s conversion closing the gap.

With the wind at their backs in the second period, the home side could not find a way through the well-drilled Doncaster defence. Thomas put a penalty wide and it took until the 70th minute before Hooley finally troubled the scoreboard with a penalty. Flockhart cancelled this out and that proved vital as Moseley finally found a way through for a converted try late on, Drew Cheshire crossing.
