Moses leads GB at world championship

Talented Yorkshire cyclo-cross ace Tom Moses was the best finisher for Great Britain in the World Cyclo-Cross Championships at Tabor in the Czech Republic yesterday.

Up against hundreds of the best riders from acorss the globe, Moses, the 21-year-old from Oakworth, near Keighley, crossed the line 36th in a field of 64 in the junior race on Saturday.

He was just 3min 24sec behind eventual winner, professional rider Tomas Paprstka from the host nation who overcame Frenchman Julian Alaphillipe in a thrilling sprint finish at the snowy venue.

All the British riders in the junior race had to contend with snow, ice and crashes – and Moses's team-mate Luke Gray was first to hit the deck but recovered well to secure 37th spot, just behind Moses and 3:28 off the winner's pace.

Meanwhile, just days after being crowned the British University Cyclo-Cross Champion, 19-year-old Burley-in-Wharfedale's Scott Thwaites has been named in one of the country's top road racing teams, Team Endura.

Thwaites is one of a 15-strong team which has been beefed up for the 2010 season with several strong signings including former National Champion and three-time Olympic rider, Rob Hayles.

They begin their programme with the Tour of the Mediterranean next week, then on to a training camp in Nice, Italy
