The horse, put up 6lb for his impressive win at Warwick on Saturday, is 24th in the handicap - a maximum of 40 runners will go to post for the £1m race on April 5 as High Eldwick-based Smith seeks a second successive victory in the race after the triumph last year of the now retired Auroras Encore.

He will almost certainly be joined by stablemate Vintage Star who has 10st 7lb and is 46th in the handicap.

Of the other Yorkshire-trained runners, Malcolm Jefferson’s Cape Tribulation is 23rd in the running order and has exactly the same weight as Mr Moonshine - 10st 12lb.

Rose Of The Moon could be a first runner for Nawton’s David O’Meara - he’s 63rd on the list with 10st 3lb and needs 23 higher rated horses to come out of the race.

Keith Reveley’s Night In Milan is unlikely to make the cut for the Saltburn trainer - he is 84th in the handicap with 9st 13lb.

The weights are headed by the veteran Tidal Bay on 11st 10lb followed by Long Run, the 2011 Gold Cup winner, on 11st 9lb.
