While it is not athletics training just yet, it is the first positive sign that the darling of British sport plans another assault on Olympic glory in 2016.

Since winning Olympic gold in the heptathlon at London 2012, the Sheffield superstar has put athletics on the back-burner to concentrate on her personal life.

She released her autobiography in the autumn of 2012, married long-time boyfriend Andy Hill in May 2013, and then announced earlier this year that she was putting her career on hold to start a family. Ennis-Hill gave birth to son Reggie on July 17.

Her long-time coach Toni Minichiello confirmed yesterday that he has held positive discussions with Ennis-Hill about the next Olympics. She could choose to defend her heptathlon title or opt for a slightly easier schedule given she has to strike a balance between her career and bringing up a baby, by doing the 110m hurdles.
