Murray to face Gimeno-Traver as Nadal lies in wait in Wimbledon semis

Andy Murray will launch his Wimbledon title bid against Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver.

The British fourth seed beat Gimeno-Traver, who is ranked 56 in the world, in their only previous meeting two years ago.

Murray is the same half of the draw as defending champion Rafael Nadal, who beat him in last year’s semi-final.

Murray was beaten by Nadal in the semi-finals last year and Andy Roddick the year before - and he may have to overcome both to reach this year’s final.

The most extraordinary match-up in the draw pitches John Isner against Nicolas Mahut in a repeat of last year’s 11-hour marathon.

Isner won the longest match in tennis history 70-68 in the fifth set.

Murray’s immediate reaction to the draw was not about his own match but the fact Isner and Mahut will lock horns again.

He tweeted: “Isner v Mahut drawing each other in the first round after last year is the most amazing thing I’ve seen in tennis. Centre court anyone?!”

Elsewhere, British number two James Ward, who enjoyed a dream run to the semi-finals at Queen’s Club last week, received a tough draw in world number 25 Michael Llodra.

A home presence in the second round of the women’s singles is guaranteed after the draw threw up up an all-British first round tie between Anne Keothavong and Naomi Broady.

Heather Watson will face Sweden’s Mathilde Johansson while Laura Robson has drawn the Russian Anna Chakvetadze.

The British number one Elena Baltacha will open her campaign against a qualifier.
