Murray looks to Queen’s for Wimbledon boost

ANDY Murray hopes that commitment to the tournament where he won his first grass court title will spark a return to form.

The British No 1 confirmed that he will compete in the AEGON Championships in June in preparation for Wimbledon.

He will return to Queen’s Club to attempt to regain his 2009 title which made him the first Briton in over 60 years to triumph at the club.

The win saw Murray write his name on the trophy alongside previous winners, including John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and Rafael Nadal.

Murray has failed to secure a place for himself beyond the first round in three consecutive tournaments, showing the worst form of his professional career to date.

The most recent of these defeats have been against Donald Young and Alex Bogomolov, both of whom are ranked outside the top 100.

The 23-year-old, who is currently between splitting from his previous coach, Alex Corretja, and appointing a new one, recognises the importance of the event in terms of success just weeks later at Wimbledon.

He said: “Usually players that have done well at Queen’s have gone on to do well at Wimbledon.”

Despite his poor form since Melbourne, Murray is ranked fourth in the world and will be hoping that he can prove himself once again as a world class tennis player and see a return to form just in time for Wimbledon.
