My expectations are extremely low, insists Murray on his Queen's return

Andy Murray claims his expectations are 'extremely low' on his long-awaited comeback against Nick Kyrgios at the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen's Club on Tuesday.

The former world No 1 has been out for 11 months out with a hip injury.

It will be 342 days since Murray last took to court in a competitive match, a Wimbledon quarter-final loss to Sam Querrey.

But Murray said: “I still think I’ll feel very nervous when I get back out there again just because you want to perform and you want to play well.

“In terms of my expectations, they are extremely low. I’m not expecting to win against Kyrgios - I don’t think it would be right to think that way after such a long time out, but obviously I want to be competitive.

“I don’t want to just go out there, roll over and play badly. I want to try and play well and feel good on the court, but my expectations are pretty low. “

Liam Broady squandered four match points as he crashed out of the Fusion 100 Ilkley Trophy on a tough day for home players.

Broady took the first set against Ukraine’s No 8 seed Sergiy Stakhovsky and took the second set to a tie break, but failed to convert any of those match points.

Stakhovsky, who once beat Roger Federer at Wimbledon, took the final set 6-2 to move into the last 16 in Yorkshire.

It was a difficult day for the British contingent as Brydan Klein was beaten on centre court by Canadian Brayden Schnur in two tie breaks while Jack Draper won just six games against Barbadian Darian King.

In the women’s draw Freya Christie lost 6-3 6-2 to Dutch player Bibiane Schoofs and Emily Appleton was beaten in straight sets by Australian Jaimee Fourlis 6-1 6-0.

Leeds’s Luke Johnson, 24, gets his bid for glory in the doubles underway today alongside British partner Jack Findel-Hawkins.
