National Three North: Ilkley bow to winger Robinson as Ireland is difference for Tigers

Winger Will Robinson continued his scintillating form since rejoining the side, scoring four tries, and opposite winger Jamie Clark also caused problems for Ilkley, scoring a brace.

Back-row Ben Sullivan also crashed over to boost the scoreline and Josh Bragman was in fine form with his kicking, hitting four conversions and a penalty.

Hull led 22-7 at the break and pressed home their advantage in the second half.

Sheffield Tigers beat Wirral 16-10 at home with fly-half Mark Ireland making the difference with some clinical kicking.

Tigers were already ahead from Ireland’s early penalty by the time centre Tom Outram, moved in from the wing, went over for Tigers’ first try.

Full-back Peter Swatkins added a second try for Tigers not long after the break and a late penalty from Ireland was enough to ensure that Tigers emerged with a narrow but deserved victory.

Sheffield were comfortable 33-17 winners at Burnage as a fine kicking display from Jonny France contributed to a steady flow of tries.

Jimmy Pearson went over from full-back for the visitors after Andy Ashcroft had put Burnage ahead early on, before centre Leigh Sanders put them ahead before the break, France converting.

Second-row Dom Parsons added a third try shortly after the break, converted by France, before scrum-half Josh Bird made the lead into a commanding one.

A late try from winger Rupert Broadley was converted by France to make Nick Scholes’s last-minute score academic.

A late try cost Huddersfield YMCA at home to Birkenhead Park as they finished on the wrong side of a 36-35 scoreline.

The hosts squandered a 16-point lead in their third defeat in four games. After leading 8-0 early on, YMCA conceded two tries to trail 12-8. However, a penalty and two converted tries from full-back Corey Rhodes and winger Adam Ryder put them in the driving seat at 25-12.

A further kick in the second half from Joe Rowntree took the lead to 16 points before the visitors hit back. Tries for both sides cancelled each other out and took it to 35-19 but three quick tries from Birkenhead at the death turned the game on its head.

Cleckheaton lost 23-17 at Lymm and are still seeking their first points of the campaign.

They conceded two late tries and left with just a bonus point.

Lymm led 8-7 at the break, Mike Piper having converted richard Piper’s try for the visitors.

Tries from Ryan Piercy and Jack Seddon made it 17-11 to Cleckheaton but Lymm went ahead with three minutes left and added another try close to the whistle.
