New boss set for talks with fans

Sheffield Steelers’ new chief, Tony Smith, will get an early chance to outline his vision to the club’s supporters at a fans’ forum in the city tonight.

Smith, who runs Rhinos Sports sportswear firm, was yesterday revealed to be the man now in sole charge of the day-to-day running of the club after owner Paul Ragan opted to concentrate on his other club, Cardiff Devils, although he retains a “silent equity stake” in the Steelers.

The change in management comes less than two weeks after it was revealed that Rink Corp – the operating company for both clubs – went into voluntary liquidation.

Smith will be taking questions from Steelers’ fans at Sheffield University’s Richard Roberts Building, Brook Hill, with doors opening at 7pm.
