New trail offers riders the chance to explore Wolds

THE rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds is being opened to riders who can now enjoy a 60-mile circular trail in this beautiful, quiet area. The figure of eight route has accommodation for horse and rider along the way.

The new route has been launched by Ride Yorkshire, an organisation which was set up last year by four enthusiasts keen to encourage others to explore the county on horseback.

Janet Cochrane and John Yeomans, two of the directors of Ride Yorkshire, rode part of the route with other riders recently.

After staying overnight at Sledmere at Life Hill Farm, they set off the next morning to ride to Garton-on-the-Wolds along a 10-mile route.

After a lunch stop at Church Farm, they rode on in the afternoon to finish the day in Huggate.

“We rode along grassy tracks through the rolling Wolds countryside and the views were superb,” said John. Riders can take their own horses or they can be sourced locally through Ride Yorkshire.

Anybody wanting to try out the route is welcome to join in a fun ride commencing from Huggate on Sunday.
