No joy again for visiting Wharfedale

On one of Wharfedale’s least happy hunting grounds came the usual result, this time at Tynedale they were beaten 20-17, but without the benefit of a soft interception try from halfway on 15 minutes it would have been a different story.

Wharfedale conceded six penalties in a difficult opening, four of which were converted before the visitors were rewarded with a penalty try.

With Wharfedale chasing, gaps appeared but only once were Tynedale able to make them count, when scrum-half Outson finished a fine move to widen the gap to 17-7.

Wharfedale were unable to exert sustained pressure until the final period when they managed to force Chris Howick over, then went through multiple phases to put Oliver Cicognini in at the corner. But a long-distance penalty from home fly-half, Brett Connon, sealed Tyndale’s win.
