No lasting concern over Foxtrot Romeo

foxtrot Romeo is reported to be none the worse after briefly running loose when unseating his rider in the paddock at Doncaster on Saturday.

The Irish 2000 Guineas runner-up unshipped Johnny Murtagh during the preliminaries to the OLBG Park Stakes. The Bryan Smart-trained colt was in the process of running a good race when he was hampered in the closing stages and eventually finished seventh behind Libranno.

“He was stopped when he was just getting into top gear, he’s a big horse with a long raking stride and once you break that stride pattern over seven furlongs, it’s very difficult for a horse like him then to re-find the thread,” said Tim Jones, racing manager to owner Andrew Tinkler. “He was fine after the paddock scenario and I think he will be a very interesting horse as a four-year-old over a mile and beyond.”

Meanwhile, Toronado could return to Doncaster for next month’s Racing Post Trophy after running out an all-the-way winner of the One Call Champagne Stakes under Richard Hughes.

The unbeaten Richard Hannon-trained winner withstood a strong challenge by 5-6 favourite Dundonnell. “He has a lovely way of galloping, he has a lovely action and it’s a pleasure to be on him,” said Hughes.

n Ruby Walsh made a winning comeback from injury with a narrow success on Rattan at Listowel. Walsh, who fractured an ankle in the Galway Hurdle last month, had to work hard to land the Kerrymaid Hurdle on the Willie Mullins-trained horse.
