Nottingham 24 Leeds Carnegie 11: Long wait for match ends in Leeds defeat

Leeds Carnegie suffered a second consecutive loss as they travelled to Nottingham’s training ground to finally play their twice-postponed clash.

On a pitch that resembled a mudbath after heavy rain, the home side opened the scoring after five minutes through Andy Savage’s try, with James Arlidge adding the conversion.

Midway through the first half, Arlidge added a penalty to make it 10-0, a scoreline which prompted Leeds to produce their best spell of the game, gaining some satisfaction when they finally got on the scoreboard through a 37th-minute penalty by Jordan Davies.

Leeds, who had battled hard in the first 40 minutes, got further reward at the start of the second half. A well-worked try for winger Oli Denton was created from a break by centre Ollie Richards, although Davies was off target with the conversion.

Nottingham were awarded a penalty try after 46 minutes before Arlidge intercepted Will Cliff’s pass to go over for a score he converted to seal the 24-11 win late on.

Leeds’s only other points came from a second penalty by Davies.
