Notts County v Huddersfield Town: Town chief Clark ready to put down a marker

TWELVE months on from one West Yorkshire club enduring the worst possible start to a season at Meadow Lane, Lee Clark is adamant Huddersfield Town can hit the ground running.

The Terriers travel to Notts County acutely aware the home side will be buoyed by winning promotion from League Two last term as champions.

Despite that, Town are confident that they can build on the progress of last season when the club reached the play-offs.

Clark said: "I am ready for the season and I can't wait to get going. I am looking forward to seeing the new players gelling with the old ones.

"I am actually relaxed, because I am fully confident that we have done all we can in terms of preparation for Notts County. I am looking forward to the game immensely.

"We have good players here with good experience and, without being over the top, I am supremely confident that these players will deliver on a consistent basis.

"I am not dismissing Notts County. They are a club on the up and have unbelievable momentum. They will play with great spirit and enthusiasm after their magnificent season, so it is one of the hardest opening fixtures we could have."

County kicked off last season by trouncing Bradford City 5-0 but are likely to find League One a much tougher prospect.

Town have all nine summer signings available and Clark is determined to put down a marker.

The Town manager added: "This season, I have been allowed to bring in a bit more experience and obviously that takes a little bit more on the financial side.

"However, when you look at the signings, only two cost a fee and we have done good business in terms of Bosman signings and loans."
