Nuneaton 13 Otley 55: Twomey brace in Otley rampage

A bright start by Otley produced 17 points in as many minutes.

This convinced Nuneaton that their only answer was through their forwards and they replied with two tries from close in, but their ebullient visitors were in no mood to take a backward step and they ran in five more tries.

The home side got due warning when No 8 Ollie Stedman broke from the first scrum to pierce the line and crisp passing sent centre Oliver Denton through, No 10 James Murray then setting off on another 100 per cent kicking display.

A storming run by lock Alex Ball, followed by a long miss-pass and a smart flick-on then gave winger Curtis Wilson room to race in.

Murray added a penalty but Nuneaton replied with a penalty from No 10 Huw Thomas and No 7 Ian Critchley grounded when they drove over from 12 metres out.

Full-back Chris Georgiou came into the line to go over but the hosts replied with another sound drive, lock Sam McDonald touching down to bring them up to 24-13.

From then on, it was all Otley, their scintillating rugby bringing them four deserved second-half tries.

After adding a second penalty, Murray seized an interception to gallop to the line, winger James Twomey got a good bounce when chasing a kick and then went in for a second try, finishing off as Otley rampaged through Nuneaton.

Finally, scrum-half Stephen Depledge, taking a quick tap at a scrum infringement, left the defence for dead to race 65 metres to the line.
