Oldham Athletic V Huddersfield Town: Travelling army hoping for another record-breaker

In a division where more than half of the clubs are based in the south of the country, today's hop across the Pennines to Oldham Athletic brings welcome respite for Huddersfield Town.

The trip to Boundary Park represents comfortably Huddersfield's closest away game of the season and Lee Clark's side are expected to be backed by a 3,000-plus strong travelling army of supporters.

Whether the Town hordes will get the win they crave remains to be seen but there can be little doubt that taking on the Latics on their own patch will be a major test due to Paul Dickov's men being unbeaten at Boundary Park.

Clark, however, is backing his promotion-chasing side to come away with a positive result and points to last month's trip to Colchester United when League One's last unbeaten record perished courtesy of a 3-0 defeat for the Essex side.

Clark said: "Statistics like that don't hold any fear for us. It was the same when we went to Colchester – they hadn't been beaten home or away – and we came back with the points after a very good display.

"I believe in my players and if they do the job right, then they are well capable of ending that record."

Town go into what almost equates to a derby fixture due to the close proximity of the two clubs in confident mood after an impressive run of results on the road.

After beating Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough 11 days ago, they were held to a goalless draw in the FA Cup first round by Cambridge United before going to Rotherham United last Tuesday in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and emerging with a 5-2 victory.

Clark said: "We are looking forward to the game and, once again, to having a fantastic support. The support we are getting is magnificent and it will be the same at Oldham as we approach what is a tough test.

"Paul Dickov has gone in there and done a good job. He has changed the team around and the way they play, they have had some positive results and they have been there or thereabouts all season.

"They are a threat to anyone on their day, but so are we. I don't know if Paul was at Rotherham the other night but if he was then he will know that when we play our attacking game like we can we are also a very good side."
