Ollett and Gray rescue Driffield

yorkshire leagues: Bridlington consolidated their lead in the top flight with a try bonus in their 31-24 win at York as second placed Driffield were held to a 10-10 draw at Huddersfield YMCA.

Bridlington scored five tries to their rivals’ two at Clifton Park.

Huddersfield YMCA, previously in the bottom four, looked set to pull off a surprise win when they went 10-0 ahead with first-half tries by second-row Jack Housley and full-back Josh Marshall.

But Driffield salvaged their two points with tries from centre Will Ollett and scrum-half Craig Gray.

Pocklington moved one point ahead of Keighley into third place with a five-try bonus in their 29-13 home win over Knottingley.

Knottingley went 10-0 ahead with an early penalty by Steve Rockett and a try by No 8 Craig Field, converted by Rockett.

Even with the wind in their favour, Pocklington led only 14-13 at half-time with a try by scrum-half Ben Rees and another by 18-year-old football convert Jake Bishop, making his debut on the wing. Nick Bennett converted both.

Flanker Jack Holbrough (two) and centre Tim Nixon scored second-half tries.

In Yorkshire Two, Barnsley regained the lead they had last held in September when they scored a 33-6 victory at mid-table Yarnbury.

Leodiensians lost the lead they had held for nine weeks when they failed to score a try and went down 15-9 at Hullensians.

Despite their win, Hullensians also dropped a place after being docked five points for fielding an ineligible player in an earlier match.

Wath on Dearne moved up to third with a 65-0 victory which included 11 tries in their home game against next-to-bottom Moortown.

No 8 Matthew Burrows scored the first try and went on to complete a hat-trick, and open-side flanker Joe Earp also scored three times.
