Here, we wrap up the action from across Rio and looks ahead to what is coming up today:

* Tom Daley won his second Olympic bronze by finishing third alongside Dan Goodfellow in the synchronised 10 metres platform with a score of 444.45. The pair endured a nervous wait before their medal was confirmed and tumbled into the pool in delight.

* Shooter Ed Ling won Great Britain’s third medal of the Games with bronze in the men’s trap. The 33-year-old Taunton farmer defeated Czech David Kostelecky 13-9 in the 15-shot contest having won a shoot-off to reach the bronze medal decider.

* James Guy, the world champion, missed out on a medal in the 200 metres freestyle final, having to settle for fourth place by 0.26 seconds as China’s Sun Yang took gold.

* Britain, including Leeds-born Nile Wilson, finished in an agonising fourth place in the men’s team gymnastics final by just under two points after lying third until being overtaken by China in the penultimate phase, the parallel bars.

* There was another fourth place as Britain’s women saw their rugby sevens medal hopes end with two demoralising defeats. They went down 25-7 in the semi-final to New Zealand before losing the bronze medal match 33-10 to Canada.

* Reigning women’s pair champions Helen Glover and Heather Stanning continued their unbeaten run as the Lagoa actually witnessed some action after high winds led to Sunday’s rowing being cancelled. The duo edged past Denmark’s Hedvig Rasmussen and Anne Andersen to win their heat.

Coming up on day four:

* David Florence has claimed an Olympic silver at each of the last two Games in Beijing and London and he will be hoping to claim the elusive gold in the men’s canoe slalom C1, an event in which he has won top honours in the 2013 and 2015 world championships. The top 10 from the semi-final at 5.30pm BST on Tuesday afternoon reach the final, which will get under way at around 7pm.

* Siobhan O’Connor, the Commonwealth Games gold medallist, will race in the final of the 200m individual medley at roughly 3.15am on Wednesday morning after setting a British record of two minutes 07.57 seconds to qualify fastest from the semi-finals. Away from the Britons, Michael Phelps and Chad le Clos go head-to-head in the 200m butterfly final about an hour earlier.

* Earlier in the day, the British women’s gymnastics team will be hoping to medal in the final, which gets under way at 8pm.

* Tonia Couch and Lois Toulson compete in the women’s synchronised 10m platform final at approximately the same time, while Britain’s equestrian riders are in action from 6pm.
