Open day at Penny Farm offers chance to gain education

THERE will be a team of experts on hand at a Here to Help day, which is being organised by the charity World Horse Welfare, at their Penny Farm Rescue Centre near Blackpool on November 26.

“If you would like to know more about saddle fitting or what bit to use, plus other aspects of horse care, there will be plenty of help and advice available,” says Samantha Chubbock from World Horse Welfare.

The day will include lectures in the morning and then more practical aspects of horse care, which will be covered in the afternoon.

British Showjumping is to introduce an apprenticeship scheme which will help those wanting to work with horses gain formal qualifications. The training will be recognised as being the equivalent to five GCSEs and advanced level training will be equivalent to gaining two A-levels.

“It means you can earn whilst you learn, gaining recognised qualifications,” said Chris Hewlett of Haddon Training, the centre which will be running this important scheme in partnership with British Showjumping.
