Victory aboard Le Costaud at Auteuil would see the Yorkshire rider, whose family trained Flat and jump horses at Saltburn, become the first horseman to win four successive renewals of a marathon race first staged in the French capital in 1876.

Reveley matched the feat of Jean Daumas, triumphant on Hyeres III from 1964-66, when winning last year’s renewal On The Go. He had previously won the race in 2016 and 2017 on So French.

All three of the jockey’s Grand Steeple wins have been for France’s champion trainer Guillaume Macaire, who saddles Le Costaud, a five-year-old who triumphed at the Auteuil in March.

A maximum 20 runners will go to post in a race that sees Willie Mullins, Ireland’s top trainer, field five horses headed by Burrows Saint who won last month’s Irish Grand National under the now retired Ruby Walsh. Paul Townend takes over in the saddle.

Acapella Bourgeois – third to Burrows Saint in Ireland’s big race – also features and will, once again, be ridden by Jonathan Burke who is enjoying increasing success in Britain.
