Mike Tuck targets BBL Trophy as Sheffield Sharks look to kickstart their campaign

Sheffield Sharks are putting all their focus on a strong start to the BBL Trophy tonight after seeing their Cup hopes dashed at the first hurdle and their Championship challenge dulled by recent results.

Sharks welcome the Plymouth Raiders – a ‘tough, physical opponent’ according to captain Mike Tuck – to Ponds Forge tonight (6pm) for a one-off first-round game.

Atiba Lyons’s side will be looking to avoid the ignominy of an early exit like they suffered from the group stage of the BBL Cup back in November, and a kickstart to their Championship season that has stalled with defeats last weekend to table-topping Newcastle Eagles and bottom-markers Glasgow Rocks.

“We didn’t show our best against Glasgow,” said Tuck, whose team’s 54-point total was their lowest across the four, 10-minute quarters all season.

“We shot one for 14 from three-point range, so our shooting was off and we didn’t share the ball around. But we are staying positive. We remain confident about the future.

“As a team we sit down and assess our goals at regular intervals and we have done that again this week and identified the Trophy as the next big thing on our hitlist.

“We can’t dwell on the past, we’ve got to focus on what we can now affect.”
