Morley, Bradford and Bingley and Dinnington among clubs to usher in return of rugby union in Yorkshire
At the start of this month, the Government gave the RFU the green light for community clubs to start training once more ahead of playing an adapted 15-a-side form of the game.
Although all league action has been cancelled for 2020-21, last night marked the first opportunity for clubs to take to the field for some competitive action.

Hide AdIn one such outing, West Leeds hosted Morley while Keighley Vets took on the Bumble Bees –the club based at Bradford & Bingley who are known for being the first team to play mixed ability contact rugby union.
Further fixtures are also dotted around the county today under the new rules which include no scrums or mauls.
In South Yorkshire, Doncaster club Wheatley Hills entertain Dinnington from Rotherham and Thornensians host Barnsley.
Yorkshire Rugby Football Union chairman Barry Breakwell spent yesterday contacting clubs across the region to see how they are faring.

Hide AdHe said: “Having spoken with a number of clubs within the county, it is clear that there is an appetite to return to play under the new adapted rules.
“A number of clubs have set up fixtures for this weekend and others are looking to arrange games ahead of the clustering arrangements.
“It’s pleasing to see that the sustainability is strong within the Yorkshire clubs.”
Wharfedale who – being in North Yorkshire – can have up to 400 fans at their traditional Boxing Day fixture against North Ribblesdale at The Avenue next Saturday (2pm).

Hide AdEntry is by pre-booked ticket only via the club. Fans can also watch York’s ‘Probables v Possibles’ fixture at Clifton Park today (2.15pm) for just £1.
Many clubs are in Tier Three but the RFU says all clubs are allowed to welcome spectators although social distancing and group sizes must be observed at all times.
