The man who played for Leeds Tykes and Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership is now a respected rugby pundit, but it is his local broadsheet newspaper that he calls upon to keep him informed.

Vickerman has said so in support of this newspaper’s decision to send some of its premium online content behind a paywall.

“As a person I’m big on memories,” begins Vickerman, 35.

“Moments of time that can be kept, associating achievements with words or images that elicit a response.

“In my house I have four framed articles taken from a scrapbook that depict each stage of my career; my debut, a man-of-the-match game, my retirement, and a ‘what’s next’ feature.

“Each of them is from the county’s finest rugby publication, The Yorkshire Post, and so my association with the paper is hugely positive, and one that continues to this day as I excitedly check the Monday sports results, stories and sports news.

“As a broadcaster and general sports aficionado now, The Yorkshire Post is a go to factfinder of insight online; articles of interest with an ability to tell stories possessing warmth and journalistic quality.

“If that isn’t worth paying for, I’m not sure what is.

“We are a proud region, and should be proud to support our paper.”
