Sheffield Sharks must address their slow starts if they are to make any in-roads into the leading teams in the BBL.

That is the verdict of club captain Mike Tuck after an opening to the season that has been characterised by the Sharks being slow out of the gate.

It was a weakness that hastened their exit from the BBL Cup and something they are keen to continue addressing ahead of the visit of Bristol Flyers to Ponds Forge tomorrow in the BBL Championship (4pm).

“We’ve got to stop digging these holes we’re putting ourselves in,” said Tuck.

“We cannot keep going into second halves 10 and 15 points down otherwise we’ll never get anywehere.

“Atiba (Lyons – head coach) has made a few adjustments to the starting line-up to try and address it.

“We have got a diverse group, a lot of people who can do a lot of different things, so we’re getting different looks to our starting five.”

Bristol Flyers may not be an established name in the league like some, but they have made a splash recently with a couple of big-name signings, Great Britain internationals Ben Mockford and Teddy Okereafor.

“They’re really good players coming into a well-coached, organised team,” said Tuck.

“They’ll be a lot different to the team we beat in pre-season.”

Last night, Sharks visited Leicester Riders in the BBL Championship and suffered a 10-point defeat, 74-64.
