Otley 22 Redruth 20: Timely win for Otley

A FINE display of rugby earned Otley a much-needed win but three yellow cards allowed Redruth to stay in the game, lock Richard Carroll scoring a try on each occasion.

There was a quick sign of what was to come when Howard Parr ran back the kick-off, the ball quickly going to centre James White, who found a gap before handing on to James Twomey, who raced to the line.

Enlivened by this, Otley were straight back on the attack, hooker Ben Steele tackled into touch just short before a chip to the line, over a maul, from scrum-half Stephen Depledge, was chased and secured by winger Ryan Duckett with Parr there to take over and score.

A penalty on half-way eventually gave Redruth a foothold and Otley found themselves under pressure. After conceding three penalties, prop Adam Blades was sin-binned and two minutes later Carroll was driven over, full-back Adryan Winnan converting.

Unperturbed, Otley continued to attack, Twomey just caught with an ankle tap with the line open before White, after good forward work, broke through the middle to run in from half-way.

Winnan kicked a penalty but after the break, Otley were back, fly-half Chris Georgiou going between the posts with a neat sidestep for the normally sure boot of Ben Hough to kick his only goal.

At 22-10 it looked all over but cards for Chris Walker on 50 minutes and replacement Mark Bennett on 67 allowed Redruth to attack through their strength, driving over on 54 and 68 minutes but they could make no further progress.
