Rachael Evison’s Ebolensky won Burghley’s Young Event Horse Five-Year-Old Final with Sharon Bayston’s Fullham winning the four-year-old version.

Bayston and Evison live within 20 miles of each other and the victorious duo have been friends for many years.

Evison, of Eastrington, is no stranger to success with her Latina 43 sold to the Japanese eventing team for the 2012 London Olympics.

Zaronda also competes with 15-year-old Pontefract star Jessica Hewitt at Grand Prix level showjumping, while Evison’s Azarah also won Burghley’s 2009 four-year-old final.

Five years later and Ebolensky has given the East Yorkshire owner another Burghley victory after being ridden by Doncaster’s Samantha Jimmison, who only started eventing in 2013.

Jimmison also had a key part to play in Bayston’s four-year-old triumph with the rider having sourced Fullham alongside Beverly Yates, with Jordan Kavanagh breaking in the horse, who was ridden to victory by Louth’s Rosalind Canter.

Some three weeks have now passed since the double triumph, but in Bayston’s eyes that still leaves another 49 weeks to celebrate.

“It’s unbelievable that Yorkshire has brought home both the four- and five-year-old trophies within 20 miles of each other,” said Pollington-based Bayston.

“I have approximately 330 days left to celebrate – that’s how much it means to me.

“Rachael and I and my husband’s family have been friends for years.

“Her parents live approximately three miles from me and I have actually bought a horse off Rachael, who is amazing and will be competing at Osberton finals this week.

“I started out two years ago to try and get a horse to the finals and I was very lucky that I had two horses there last year and one finished 11th in the four-year-olds.

“It was my dream to win either the four- or five-year-old as I have watched the qualifiers and final for many years.”

Fullham – whose stable name is Millom – booked his place at Burghley with a notable success in its own right, a victory at Bramham, and Bayston already has her eyes on another Burghley victory in 2015.

Bayston added: “I have 15 horses in total as I breed them too. One of my foals this year gained Elite status at the futurity grading in Solihull so I hope he will be good enough when he is four to put his name on the BYEH trophy.”

Evison, meanwhile, could be bidding for a Burghley treble in 2015 and future success surely awaits this year’s hero Ebolensky.

Evison beamed: “Ebolensky was purchased as a foal and will be campaigned by Sam Jimmison slowly. She has a huge amount of talent.”

As does Yorkshire – left beaming by a Burghley double.
