Phillips told to be patient in Chicago

DEFENCEMAN David Phillips has been assured he will get his Chicago Wolves debut soon, despite not featuring in the team's opening three games of the AHL season.

Hull-born Phillips – who made history last year when he became the first British-trained player to play in the American League – switched to the Wolves during the summer after spending last season with 'local' rivals Rockford IceHogs.

With Chicago's NHL affiliate Atlanta Thrashers sending down more defencemen than expected by the Wolves management team, it saw Phillips sit out the games against San Antonio Rampage and Oklahoma City Barons.

But Wolves GM, Wendell Young, said it would not be long before the 24-year-old would be out on the ice at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.

"We don't want David sitting around and not playing," said Young.

"At the moment it's a waiting game. We know what he's capable of and he'll be into the team very soon."
