Popular Ondrej back in line with Stingrays

DEFENCEMAN Martin Ondrej has made a swift return to Elite League strugglers Hull Stingrays.

The 28-year-old was part of the Stingrays side which reached the Rapid Solicitors Elite League play-off semi-final last season, but opted to stay at home for personal reasons during the summer.

Ondrej began this term with hometown club HC Presov but he is now back with Stingrays as a replacement for countryman Tomas Valecko, who was released yesterday.

He will be in the line-up for Saturday’s Gardiner Conference clash with Dundee Stars at Hull Arena (6.30pm).

“He was one of the players from last season I wanted back, but for personal reasons which I fully understood, he needed to stay close to home,” said Stingrays’ player-coach Sylvain Cloutier.

“But we have kept in touch and he now cannot wait to get back to Hull. He really enjoyed his time here before.

“Martin is a good guy in the dressing room. He was very consistent last season, he competes, he keeps things simple and does what you tell him.

“I felt it was time to make a change and shake things up. I would like to thank Tomas for his time with us.”
