Positive approach works for Otley as six-try haul sinks Huddersfield

All-out attack again produced six tries for a confident Otley side in a 45-27 triumph over local rivals Huddersfield

Such was the entertainment provided that their lapses through over-elaboration were excused by the faithful.

Fly-half Ben Cooper put them ahead with a penalty in the first minute, but a penalty into the corner set up a drive for Huddersfield, with hooker James Davies going over for scrum-half Joel Hinchliffe to convert.

Chasing the restart, No 8 Dan Temm claimed the ball to beat off tackles on his way to the corner and, three minutes later, James Twomey came in-field to take a pass on half-way and sprinted clear to the posts to provide Cooper with a simple conversion.

Huddersfield hit back with a try for winger Elliott Jones after good forward driving, but Otley quickly followed suit when hooker Ben Steele exited the maul to crash over.

Only four minutes into the second half the visitors forced their way over the line again, with prop Anthony Stringwell grounding the ball and Hinchliffe converting to bring his side to within a point.

Cooper kicked a penalty, but fly-half Thomas Owen replied before Otley sprung into life.

From the restart, the ball was booted back into their 22, collected by Twomey who fed full-back Chris Gemmell, who then raced 75 metres to the line. Shortly afterwards, Temm steamed through the middle for his second score with Cooper converting both tries.

Replacement centre Michael Coady then scorched through the middle before handing on to Toby Williams, who swept the defence aside to score.

Huddersfield secured a bonus point when No 8 Nicholas Sharpe grounded, before Cooper ended the game as he began with a penalty.
