Powell relishing
an ‘ideal opener’

championship: Featherstone Rovers coach Daryl Powell believes the visit of fellow big-investors Leigh Centurions offers the perfect start to their Championship campaign.

“It’s an ideal opening encounter,” he said. “You’re not limping into the season; you’re going crash, bang, wallop straight into it and, hopefully, we’ll go well.”

Deposed champions Featherstone have won the League Leaders’ Shield for the last three seasons but lost last year’s Grand Final to Sheffield Eagles, having also slipped in the 2010 decider to Halifax.

Leigh hope to challenge especially given they have signed dynamic Halifax captain and hooker Sean Penkywicz.
