Quinn's King Fingal set for success at Doncaster

The two-day Sky Bet Chase meeting begins at Doncaster this afternoon and King Fingal can get the locals off to a flyer in the opening skybet.com Novices' Hurdle (Div 1).

Trained near Malton by John Quinn, the six-year-old was a fair handicapper at around 10 furlongs on the level, but appears set to take higher rank at the winter game and was in the process of making a sparkling jumping debut until stumbling at the second-last when travelling smoothly at Haydock in November.

Given time to recover from that experience, as well as getting some intensive schooling under his belt, he reappeared a couple of weeks ago at Musselbugh and this time took advantage of a rival's mishap when coming home four-and-a-half lengths clear of Kaolak.

That has left him with a penalty to concede all round this afternoon, but it would be no surprise if he develops into a smart novice who could even end up at one of the spring Festivals.

Andhaar faces a similar task in the second division, in that he must shoulder a double penalty following convincing successes at Wetherby and Market Rasen.

His handler has mentioned him in the same breath as former stable star Royal Shakespeare and his latest five-length defeat of Taketimeout stamped him as one to follow.

Paul Nicholls sends a strong team up for the last three races on the card, headed by Empire Levant in the skysports.com/racing Juvenile Hurdle.

The French import was well-touted prior to his Newbury debut and even though a mistake at the third-last put paid to his chances, he showed a pleasing attitude to run on again into third and he is still in the Triumph Hurdle mix.

King Of The Night wouldn't be out of place at the Cheltenham Festival either and the champion trainer sends him for a confidence booster in the Sheffield Insulations EBF "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle (Qualifier).

The ex-Irish gelding translated last term's smart bumper form to timber when hammering Fiulin at Cheltenham.

That earned him a return trip to Prestbury Park for a crack at a Grade Two prize and although he came up short behind the excellent Cue Card, there was no disgrace in the performance.

Nicholls is represented by Font in the R.A. Beaver Handicap Chase but he failed to fire on his return from an absence and will need to improve greatly if he is to get to grips with Henry Daly's Kack Handed.

Having finally broken his duck at Haydock, he then probably bettered that effort when second off a 6lb higher mark at Ffos Las and Richard Johnson may be able to dictate terms to suit himself on this front-runner.

Johnson is also on board what could be the best bet of the day, with Mostly Bob taken to defy top weight in the Simpson Millar Novices' Handicap Chase.

The Philip Hobbs inmate gave second best only to the 133-rated Adams Island at the last meeting on Town Moor so he must be tough to beat off 125 here.
